Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Baking Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 40 minutes
Servings: 9–12 pieces
– 120 grams unsalted butter
– 120 grams dark chocolate
– 2 eggs
– ¾ cup powdered sugar
– 1 coffee sachet dissolved in a little lukewarm water
– ¾ cup all-purpose flour (maida)
– ¼ cup cocoa powder
– Butter paper (for lining the pan)
– Chocolate for decoration (optional)
Step 1 – Melt Butter and Chocolate
Add 120 grams of unsalted butter and 120 grams of dark chocolate to a heatproof bowl. Melt them together using a double boiler or microwave in short bursts, stirring until completely smooth with no lumps. Set aside to cool slightly.
Step 2 – Beat Eggs and Sugar
In a separate bowl, add 2 eggs and ¾ cup of powdered sugar. Beat together using an electric beater or by hand until the mixture turns slightly creamy and pale.
Step 3 – Combine Chocolate Mixture
Pour the melted chocolate and butter into the egg mixture. Stir well to combine.
Step 4 – Add Coffee
Dissolve one coffee sachet in a small amount of lukewarm water and add it to the batter. Mix everything together until smooth and uniform.
Step 5 – Add Dry Ingredients
Sift in ¾ cup of flour and ¼ cup of cocoa powder. Fold gently into the batter until fully incorporated. The batter should be thick but pourable — neither too thin nor too stiff. This consistency is what gives brownies their signature crust.
Step 6 – Prepare the Pan
Line your baking pan with butter paper and lightly grease it. Pour the brownie batter in and spread it evenly.
Step 7 – Bake
Bake at 170°C (340°F) for 25 minutes. The top should form a beautiful crackly crust when done.
Step 8 – Cool and Serve
Allow the brownies to cool at room temperature before cutting — this helps them set properly and gives a cleaner slice and better finish. Decorate with melted chocolate if desired, then cut into squares and serve.
Tip: If you can resist cutting right away, giving the brownies 30–45 minutes to cool completely will give you that classic fudgy texture inside with a firm crust on top.
